17th annual Interior Blood Drive for Life begins today

The 17th annual Interior Drive for Life kicked off at Pine Centre Mall today.

Canadian Blood Services Interior territory manager Amy Erickson says this is an important drive for them every year as donations dip in the summer.;

“Now that it’s the end of summer people are getting back into their routine…” said Erickson “People are done with vacations. We use this challenge as a way to get them back into their routine of donating blood”

The Drive for Life sees Prince George and Kelowna face off in a competition to see what city can donate more blood.

Mayor Green was on hand to cut the cake and Pamela Saulter spoke and shared her family’s journey with donors and childhood cancer.

Saulter said blood donation wasn’t something she thought about until it hit her at home;

“Before Audrey got sick I think I kind of always knew in the back of my mind. That there was kids with cancer with a need for blood. I think until you experience it you put those thoughts out of your mind because they are hurtful to think about. But now its certainly something we can never put of our mind again.”

The challenge runs until October 30th

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
