PG law enforcement running for Special Olympics today

Local law enforcement is showing its support for Special Olympics with a Torch Run today.

RCMP Officers, the BC Sheriffs Service, and Fire Rescue will run a 3.5-kilometre downtown track to raise funds and awareness for Prince George and BC Special Olympic athletes.

“We are very happy to help raise money to support these local athletes,” says Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP, “their dedication and effort into their respective sports is inspiring. The generosity of this community is equally inspiring, so we are confident that this will be a successful event.

The run begins at 4 PM at the RCMP detachment (455 Victoria Street). It will be followed by a barbecue and 50/50 raffle at around 4:30 PM. The public is invited.

Globally, the event has raised over $600 million for Special Olympics.

Due to the event, 5th Avenue from Victoria to Vancouver will be closed from 3 PM – 6 PM.
