BCTF calls out Education Minister for talking to the media

The president of the BC teachers federation blasted the education minister again today for breaking the media blackout on contract talks.

Jim Iker addressed several hundred teachers at the annual BCTF summer conference in Kamloops and described Peter Fassbender’s remarks as unhelpful.

“That’s not the 24/7 bargaining that Peter Fassbender keeps repeating on his media tours…” Iker declared, “His efforts this week to undermine the media blackout and his governments 40 dollar a day bribe has been incredibly unhelpful.”

Iker says there is room for movement, but it must come in mediation saying the government isn’t ready to bargain.

He also confirmed that pickets will be up around the province this week to ramp up pressure on the government.
