The Ministry of Environment has issued an update on the water supply and fish populations in the Mount Polley area after the tailings pond disaster almost three weeks ago.
They say samples taken from the Polley and Quesnel Lakes show excess levels of selenium in certain parts of the fish.
But the government says as long as you don’t eat the liver or gonads of the fish in high amounts you will be OK.
Tests also found levels of copper exceeding aquatic guidelines in a couple of spots in Quesnel Lake but because they are in deep water, they are considered low risk for humans.
Health officials are doing further testing on the Quesnel River after the well known biologist Alexandra Morton reported a strange “blue film”
