Ice Bucket Challenge raises $1.3 million for ALS

It seems you can’t spend more than five minutes on the internet and not come across someone who is showing the world their take on the “Ice Bucket Challenge” for ALS.

While some have said that the campaign is only feeding people’s social media narcissism , Interim CEO with ALS Canada, Tammy Moore responds that the campaign has raised over $1.3 million nationally, and over $14,000 in BC.

She also points out that the international attention to the disease has made those suffering from it feel connected to people like never before.

“Because then people understand what the disease is, at least know the name of the disease they’re dealing with,” she says. “For those that choose to be nay-sayers about it, the way that communities are supporting people now, I think it is such an incredible aspect of this initiative.”

Prince George has seen City Councillors, local police, and also our own Vista Radio crew dumping ice water on their heads, then challenging others via an online video to donate and do the same.
