Now that veteran mediator Vince Ready is back in the mix, PG’s school board is hoping he can facilitate labour peace between the BCTF and the province. Vice Chair Tim Bennett is hopeful this is the first step to seeing schools open by September 2nd.
“Our board is committed to wanting a negotiated agreement to ensure kids are back to school in September,” say Bennett, “personally I think this is a positive step, but remaining cautiously optimistic.
Yesterday, a joint statement was issued confirming Ready met with both sides and he has openings in his schedule this month. A few weeks ago, he said he was too busy, so Justice Stephen Kelleher agreed to step in, but he’s no longer involved. A media blackout remains in effect on the status of bargaining which resumed this week.
