Public inquest to be held into Babine and Lakeland explosions

A public inquest is coming into two deadly sawmill explosions in Northern BC.
The BC Coroner’s Service says the public, particularly the families will take value in hearing first-hand from those who knew what went on when the Babine Forest Products Mill in Burns Lake and Lakeland Mills in Prince George exploded in 2012, killing four people in total and injuring dozens of others.
A jury could make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.
Both explosions were blamed in part on wood dust accumulation, but no charges were laid because the Crown felt evidence collected by WorksafeBC wouldn’t be admissible in court.
The inquest is set for March 2, 2015 and will go four weeks.
