Railway and Forestry Museum seeks $100k from city for Pavilion

The Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum hopes the city can pitch in $100,000 for its planned pavilion.

The museum hopes to break ground on the $1.2 million structure this summer, which is designed to house outdoor railcars and hold events.

Up to 100 volunteers through the Timbers Framers Guild are heading to the city this summer for construction, and Museum Executive Director Ranjit Gill believes the city will be a good host.

“These people that are coming into our community they’re from all over the world, they’re taking two weeks out of their busy schedule and so we needed to provide accommodation, food, and entertainment.”

Gill has already secured nearly $300,000. She says the engineers have worked for free and a lot of lumber supplies have been donated. Taking into account in-kind donations and this possible money from Council, Gill is confident they’ll fully fund the project.
