UNBC adds local player from Lady T-Wolves development program

UNBC basketball has recruited a local player, who’s also a part of their junior program for three years.

Kyla Giesbrecht, a senior guard for Cedars Christian High School, has committed as a freshman for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

She says she’s looking forward to wearing the green and gold.

“I’ve always looked up to the players on the UNBC teams. I come to all the home games, and I have played Junior Timberwolves for many years. To be on the actual Timberwolves team will be really exciting.”

Women’s head coach Sergey Shchepotkin identifies Giesbrecht as a hard-worker, performing as much as possible on the court for her team’s success.

“I love Kyla’s mindset. She works hard, and is willing to penetrate to the paint; her aggressiveness is evident on offence and defence.”

Having played in three provincial championship tournaments with the Cedars Christian Eagles, Giesbrecht’s desire to play at the next level grew as her high school career progressed.

“Once I started playing senior, I realized this is really fun and that I want to go far with this. I could see it was an option, so I continued to work hard because I wanted it.”

Giesbrecht adds she intends to study social work at UNBC and the chance to play at the U-Sports level in her hometown is an opportunity she couldn’t turn down.
