RCMP say warmer weather leads to more break-ins in PG

The warmer weather has led to an increase in break and enter cases for Prince George RCMP.
Corporal Craig Douglass believes the thieves strike when no one is home, but exploit any windows they find left open.
“It’s an invitation for increased break and enters,” he says, noting the thieves most likely move around on foot or by bicycle between residences. “It’s easier for them to get around in the summer months, given the warmer weather,” he says.
“We do find that residences on the perimeter of communities where people aren’t likely to be walking through are less likely to be victimized,” he says. “That for Prince George basically puts the bowl area more susceptible and any area close to downtown, we find have higher break-in rates.”
Douglass advises residents keep doors and windows closed and locked when not home.
He also suggests taking Community Policing’s free “Home Evaluation” program to see how easy it is for thieves to break in to your home, with tips on how to better secure your property.
