Prince George City Council has approved their contribution of $50,000 to the Highway 16 Inter-Community Transit service project.

Mayor Lyn Hall says this will connect municipalities along the the stretch via BC Transit safely and efficiently.
“We’re finding that Prince George is the largest community in the North and really centrally located; we are a regional hub, which is providing various services. People may need to access Prince George just as much as they may need to access Terrace or Smithers for service.”
This is largest investment of the 10 communities involved in the $147,000 project, but Mayor Hall says this has been strongly approved.
“Everyone one of us that represents a particular location have been in contact as a group. So what we’re looking at doing is now each community has put in so much money for a period of time to sustain this operation.”
He adds the 2017 initiative will now have to wait for the official word from BC Transit.
“And then at some point they will give us an idea of the number of buses; they’ll give us an idea of the number of stops along Highway 16, and it’ll be implemented at their call, which I suspect will be sometime in the spring.”
Stops along the way will include Vanderhoof, Houston, and Smithers, who has contributed the second largest share at over $24,500.
