Tuesday night’s lighting gave the city quite the show, but the Wildfire Management Branch wasn’t happy to see it.
Information Officer Jill Kelsh says it will take a bit of time to know for sure if any lightning caused new wildfires.
“Normally, when we have a lightning storm that passes over it takes a day or more for things to dry out, for us to see if a fire has popped up because of it,” she says. “we do have patrols going up today to go and hunt for any fires that may have occurred due to the lightning storm.”
Kelsh says the PG Fire Centre has seen a decrease in fire activity, but anything can happen over the rest of the summer.
She estimates around $14.6 million has been spent regionally to fight fires.
Meanwhile, LC Gunn park is officially open again Wednesday, as crews finally extinguished the fire that was set there, last week.
