Extra grader will help Prince George with snow removal

Winter is coming, and the City of Prince George is prepared for snow removal.

A recent assessment suggested the city get another retainer grader to better meet snow removal timelines. The city prioritizes certain infrastructure and demands snow on arterial, downtown, and hospital district roads is removed within 48 hours of snowfall.

To meet the demand, there will be a twelfth road grader to the fleet this winter, which Public Works Director Gina Layte Liston says will make removal more efficient and effective, especially throughout the night.

“An additional grader, we fell, will allow us to meet those 48-hour timelines that we have for priority ones and twos.”

Of the 12 road graders, five are city owned and operated, two are leased during winter, and now five retainer graders are contracted. Last year, there were only four contracted retainer graders.
