Lewington swims to 3 medals at Summer Games

Cariboo-North East finished 7th out of 8 regions with 3 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze for a total of 18 medals at the BC Summer Games in Nanaimo. (North West ended up with 14 medals: 3G, 4S & 7B). Fraser Valley led the way with 207 medals (79G, 72S & 56B). Over 2500 athletes, aged 11 to 18, competed in 19 different sports.

–Prince George swimmer Skylar Lewington earned a gold (800 free), a silver (400 free) and a bronze (400 I.M.)   PG Track athletes Shelby Jansen (Girls 300 M) and Kendel Rogers (Pole vault) each picked up a silver. The 15-year-old Jansen also captured a bronze medal in the 4 x 400 relay.

–14-year-old Amanda Heinze of Prince George was named the Zone 8 female winner of the $500 scholastic bursary from Coast Capital Savings. Heinze can use the funds for future academic pursuits.

–The next major meet for the Prince George Track Club is the BC Junior Development Track and Field Championships (aged 9-13) next weekend in Surrey with a couple of PG athletes set to attend. There will also be a few local athletes heading to the Legion Youth Track and Field Nationals next month in Langley.
