The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is moving the Salmon River Bridge on Highway 97 to provide a detour route while a new bridge is being built.
The bridge, located 27 km north of Prince George, will be closed beginning at 10 pm on Saturday, November 19 and will reopen at 6 am on Sunday, November 20 at its new alignment. There is a plan in place to allow emergency vehicles across the bridge if needed during this time.
There may be some periods of single-lane alternating traffic during the beginning and end of the construction of the new bridge.
The shifted structure will provide a two-lane detour while the new bridge is being completed.
The upgraded bridge will have a wider span and greater load capacity in order to accommodate the increase in commercial traffic along the highway. Height restrictions will also be removed and the new structure will have two full lanes and highway shoulders as well as a pedestrian crossing.
It is slated for completion in the fall of 2017.
Motorists are encouraged to check Drive BC for delays during construction on that route.
