The Salvation Army started its Christmas Fundraising campaign this morning with a by-donation brunch.
There were choirs and speakers addressing the crowd at the Coast Inn of the North, all of whom got to enjoy pancakes, eggs, and coffee.
Captain Neil Wilkinson says there are four avenues of giving during the holiday season: Christmas kettles, Tree of Lights, direct mail, and by donations. The charity usually gets about $400,000 during the campaign, $250,000 of which through the kettles.
“It’s absolutely phenomenal to see how such a little bit of money can go a long way in supporting people,” he says, “it’s absolutely critical, we couldn’t do what we do without it.”
That money helps fund the charity throughout the year, which in turn helps 1500 local families – about 3800 people – every month.
