A father and son are facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and kidnapping after a young woman was found in distress on the side of Highway 16 on Saturday night.
The 30 year old woman was helped by a passing motorist and police and paramedics attended the scene. She is believed to have been driven down a remote forest road and brutally assaulted. She then walked seven kilometres to the highway for help. She is recovering in hospital.
James Stanley Filiatrault, 53, and his son, William Thomas Filiatrault, 21, were located in a vehicle on Highway 97 in the Hart on Sunday morning and arrested for attempted murder.
They will remain in custody until their first court appearance on Monday.
The RCMP say the accused and the victim were known to each other and believe the attack was targeted.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
