The soon-to-be President of Rotary International made a quick stop in Prince George, apart of his weeklong trip to BC.
Ian Riseley, a member of the Rotary Club of Sandringham (Australia), met with members of the three local clubs – Rotary Club of Prince George, Rotary Club of Prince George – Yellowhead, and Rotary Club of Prince George – Nechako – during his two-day stay. He was impressed by the what he called the “youthful energy” amongst the clubs’ heads.
“They’re all young and they’re all successful business people and they’re all ‘go-getters’ and as a result of which, in this current Rotary year, there’s a lot of good projects happening around here.
One he was most fond of the recent Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park skatepark (to which Rotary raised $40,000).
“Young people have far more courage than I did when I was their sort of age.”
He noticed quite a few city projects while in the city, including the Rotary soccer fields, Hospice House, and UNBC Gazebo. The three clubs are also working towards men’s health and India and Tanzania water fundraisers, as well as the local Operation Red Nose.
When asked what he’d like to see from the local Rotary Clubs moving forward, he said he’d like to see them “keep doing the great work that they’re doing.”
Riseley left for to Vancouver this afternoon to continue his week-long BC trip.
Riseley will succeed current Rotary International President John Germ of Chattanooga, Tennessee on July 1, 2017.
