Some unfortunate timing and a fundraising shortfall put Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince George (BBBS PG) in a bit of a financial crunch toward the end of the summer.
“In order to not compete with the games, we ended up moving our fundraising to the end of the year and we ended up falling about $30,000 short of our fundraising target,” says executive director Tim Bennett.
“At the same time, we had a delay in one of our largest grants.”
Bennett says the situation has already begun to improve and the organization is looking forward to a major fundraising event next month.
“Our Bowl for Kid’s Sake is an annual event. It’s probably one of our largest events of the year. This year it’s scheduled for November 18 and 19 and we’re looking for teams to sign up to come out and bowl for a couple of hours and helps us hopefully raise $30,000.”
The event will take place at Black Diamond lanes. November 18 features a ‘Be Your Inner Villain’ theme, while the 19 is “Save the day as a Hero!”
Despite a lofty goal, Bennett is optimistic.
“Things are starting to definitely work themselves out and we’re just working hard to make sure we’re on a solid footing for next year.”
He says the organization feels very fortunate for the support it has received from the community.
