The Prince George RCMP is investigating a case of human trafficking, where a woman was allegedly forced into the local sex trade.
On Wednesday Oct 12th, police began an investigation into a report of Human Trafficking and Forcible Confinement of an adult female at the Rosebud Motel in Prince George. It’s believed that the victim was held against her will for a number of days and forced into the sex trade.
At 5pm that same day, officers descended on the motel on the 3600 block of Highway 97 in the Hart and arrested two people who appeared in court Friday.
Jody Lee Burns, 33 and Jennifer Dawn Comadina, 34, both of Prince George are facing charges of trafficking in persons, forcible confinement and sexual assault with a firearm. Burns is also charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
The PG RCMP say the “investigation is just beginning”, and are looking into the possibility that there may have been other victims. Investigators are hoping that the apprehension of these suspects will provide any other victims with the courage to come forward to police.
a previous version of this story indicated the woman was kept at the Old Frankfurt Motel, when in fact it was next door at the Rosebud
