UPDATE:
The RCMP have confirmed it was the pilot who died in a plane crash southwest of Vanderhoof on Monday.
The Burns Lake detachment was alerted of the crash at about 9:25am, Oct 10th. The de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver aircraft had taken off from the Vanderhoof Airport at around 9am, heading to Laidman Lake, a 30 min flight SW from Vanderhoof.
There were four others on the plane that survived the crash, one of which contacted RCMP from a cell phone.
Several resources were dispatched through the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Vanderhoof Search and Rescue and BC Ambulance.
The crash location was confirmed as being 120 km sw of Vanderhoof, near Moose Lake and the NuGold Mine area.
“On attendance to the crash site, 3 CFB Comox SAR technicians parachuted from the Buffalo aircraft into the site to provide First Aid to survivors. All 4 survivors were extracted from the crash site in rescue baskets lowered from the helicopter. The Vanderhoof SAR technicians were able to land near the site and able to extricate the body of the 42 year old deceased pilot from the wreckage. The pilot’s body was transported out of the site by the Vanderhoof SAR Team on behalf of the BC Coroners Services” stated Cpl Dan Moskaluk.
Police say all of the survivors were transported to Anahim Lake, where 3 were then flown to the Lower Mainland and 1 to Kamloops, all via BCAS Medi-Vac aircraft. The injured men were 50, 47, 36 and 30 years of age.
The CBC is reporting the deceased pilot is a well known mining contractor from Saskatchewan.

Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board are on their way to a crash site near Anahim Lake following the downing of a plane yesterday.
Authorities say a de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver went down in a wooded area north of Anahim Lake, killing the pilot and sending several others to hospital.
Some of the passengers suffering lesser injuries were flown to hospital in Kamloops while one, suffering more severe injuries was airlifted to Vancouver .
The plane was apparently on it’s way from Vanderhoof to a fishing camp near the coast.
All the passengers were from outside BC.
