A preliminary inquiry is underway for a former senior government staffer who is facing child porn charges.
Edward Berry stands accused of one count of accessing child porn and one count of possession of child porn.
When he was arrested at the end of 2014, he held a regional director position within the Ministry of Children and Family Development. He oversaw child welfare for the Prince George area. Given his management status, he had minimal contact with children.
The inquiry will determine if there is enough evidence to send the matter to trial in BC Supreme Court.
The proceedings are scheduled to run through the end of the week. While a publication ban is in effect for the inquiry, 8 witnesses will be called with arguments centering around the continuity of possession of an electronic device.
