Ancient Forest to remain closed Mon-Fri for next two weeks

The Ministry of Transportation says the Ancient Forest/Chun T’oh Whudujut Park east of Prince George will be closed during the week until October 7th while parking lot and highway intersection upgrades are completed.

Highway 16 will also be reduced to single lane alternating traffic during construction. Traffic delays are expected to be less than 20 minutes along the route.

Specifically, closures and traffic delays will take place;

* Monday, Sept. 26 to Friday, Sept. 30

* Monday, Oct. 3 to Friday, Oct. 7

* Open on the weekends.

The Ministry says the construction schedule was delayed due to wet weather over the past few weeks, but that they do not expect any further closures after Oct 7th. The park was closed during the week for most of September.

The work is a part of a $1 million upgrade, which will improve highway access by installing an intersection and new parking lot.

The Ancient Forest was officially declared a Class A Park this spring.
