Environment Canada predicting fall temperatures for the last long weekend of the summer

The last long weekend of the summer is here and the weather? Well, it’s looking like a mixed bag according to Environment Canada Meteorologist Ross MacDonald.

“The best way to say it is it’s a little bit of everything,” says Ross MacDonald, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. “We’re not looking at particularly hot weather – nothing that I would refer to as beautiful barbecue weather but it’s not a total wash either.”

MacDonald says the north central region will see a mix of sun and clouds with periods of rain and highs of 14-15 degrees.

“That is a little bit below normal. Normals around this time of year sit at about 19-20 degrees so we’re a few degrees below the norm.”

If you’re considering a camping trip, take your warm woolies! Overnight lows are expected to dip as low as 2 degrees. If you’re a gardener, you might want to start bringing your pots inside and covering your outdoor beds in the evening.

For those already missing the warmer days, MacDonald doesn’t have good news.

“As we like to say around here, September 1 is the start of what we call meteorological fall. It is that time of transition into a bit more of an unsettled pattern, a few more weather systems will be coming across the province and we’re certainly on track to see that.”

Summer is over, at least as far as Environment Canada is concerned.
