Hosting BC has awarded the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club a $10,000 grant to put toward the Canadian National and North American Biathlon Championships.
“When we host events like this, we certainly aren’t making money off of these,” says Kevin Pettersen, President of the club. “This is where these grants are very helpful in terms of what we can offer to make the event something that will hopefully exceed the level of expectation for the competitors that are coming and for our community.”
Pettersen says the funding will be put toward essentials like fencing, signage, markers and timing equipment.
The championships will run from March 8-12, 2017 and Pettersen says it will be another great sporting event for Prince George.
“This is not only a great opportunity to watch but an opportunity to be involved. If people are interested in volunteering for the event and being up close, we’re having some officials courses through the fall. That’s a great opportunity, just like it was with the Canada Winter Games, to actually be a part of the event.”
You can get in touch with the club for more details about volunteering.
