Prince George residents got a great deal on used books this weekend and helped Spinal Cord Injury BC raise $825.
The AimHi gym was filled with rows of tables stretching the length of the room, each covered with books, movies, and CDs.
Organizer Karen Marshall spent the past two months collecting these donations from local residents and was happy to surpass her modest fundraising target.
“I set a low goal of $500, just because I wasn’t sure what to expect, and we made that (on Saturday).”
She also wasn’t expecting to see 25 people waiting for her to open the doors Saturday morning.
“I was really surprised and really pleased to see that our little bit of advertising had worked and that so many people were happy to buy books and happy to support us.”
Just like how the donations, either monetary or tangible, came from Prince George residents, she says all the proceeds will stay locally. The money will fund peer programs like a monthly coffee group and outdoor activities.
