Next weekend will be a busy one for fall fairs with both the BC Northern Exhibition and the Nechako Valley Exhibition underway.
The community of Hixon is also getting in on the action, hosting the Hixon Fall Fair on August 20.
Organizer Cory Vernon says they may be small but it’s an enthusiastic group.
“We’ve got a dinner going and a dance and games and the parade. So hopefully we can get things happening again like it used to be back in the day.”
While the events are August 20, participants will be getting started the day before.
“People that want to put exhibits in, that’s the day before. And then Saturday, for floats, people have to be at the pub parking lot by 9:00 am for judging and the parade starts at 10.”
She says it will be affordable family fun with face painting, pinatas and a colouring contest for the kids.
“We have a paper bag auction, a dessert auction, a dinner. Dinner tickets are $15 each or $40 for a family and dance tickets are $10 each or $20 for a family.”
Vernon says enthusiasm is running high. They’re hoping to recreate the community spirit of the historic event.
