The Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing Grant program will hand out $55 million to municipalities throughout BC this year. Prince George will get a little over $1.1 million of that. As the name suggest, the money comes from ticket fines and court imposed fines for traffic violations.
“The Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing program is an unconditional grant that we provide to municipalities and it is designed to assist them in improving community safety, looking at specific community priorities,” says local MLA Shirley Bond. “We think what’s most important is that it gives communities to make those decisions themselves. It is unconditional.”
The city is free to decide where it will spend the money, whether on infrastructure, equipment, service delivery or safety priorities.
The Traffic Fine Revenue Grant Sharing program has been around since 2009.
