UPDATE: Fatal plane crash near Green Lake under investigation

More details are emerging following a plane crash near 70 mile house shortly after noon on Thursday that left a 42 year old passenger dead and the pilot in serious condition.

Regional Manager for Aviation Accidents with the Transportation Safety Board, Bill Yearwood says what they understand at this time, is that the privately operated Piper Arrow aircraft was landing at the airstrip at the Flying U Guest Ranch on North Green Lake.

“During the landing, the pilot attempted a go around meaning he aborted the landing and tried to take off again and during that departure he struck trees and crashed at the north end of the runway.”

Yearwood says they also know that trees are identified at the end of runaway meaning that there’s a steeper departure path.

He says they’re hoping that the 74 year old pilot, who was airlifted to Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital in serious condition survives and is able to tell investigators what caused him to have to abort the landing.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are assisting the Transportation Safety Board as they continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
