What do Councillor Jillian Merrick, Prince George Public Library Communications Coordinator Amy Dhanjal and local journalist Samantha Wright Allen have in common?
They’ve all been nominated for a Badgie Award.
Home Sweet Home Grocery co-founder Laura Sapergia says she and fellow founder Diandra Oliver got the idea for the award by looking at the community around them
“We started looking around our community and our friends and all of the women that we know. All of these awesome women are doing amazing things just in the last year or so but they’re not really getting a lot of recognition for it in the media or business awards. So we really wanted to do a new event that gave awards to awesome women.”
Sapergia says a lot of what women do in the community goes unseen and unrecognized.
“Basically any organization, or office, anywhere in your family or home, there’s awesome women doing awesome things so be thankful for all the things that they do that they’re not necessarily getting recognized for.”
Twenty-five Prince George women will be acknowledge at the inaugural award ceremony.
“We are just going to have a big party. We’re going to have great music and people talking about who they nominated, how women are awesome and amazing in this community and are basically running the city.”
Tickets to the event will be sold at the door. They’re $10 each, doors are at 8pm.
