UPDATE: The Ministry of Environment has issued a statement correcting the RCMP, the sow’s two cubs were not euthinized, but were transported to Northern Lights Bear rehab in Smithers.
A bear attack has taken place at the Forests for the World Park.
RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass says they received report of a bear attack near Shane Lake at around 430pm. He says a 46 year old man suffered “moderate non life threatening” injuries. The man was walking his dog in the area. The victim was transported to hospital via ambulance.
During a search of the area, a sow black bear was put down. The dog is believed to be fine.
The Prince George RCMP are reminding everyone to take extra caution when enjoying the outdoors. Be sure to pay attention to your surroundings, keep dogs tethered and make noise so that you do not surprise animals such as bears.
