Peace River District Evacuees Returning Home

Residents evacuated from the Peace River Regional District can start heading home.

Many were evacuated Saturday as two wildfires grew closer. Siphon Creek is now bigger than 24,000 hectares, and the Beatton Airport Road blaze it over 12,000.

The BC Wildfire Service has already seen 3 times more fires and 7 times the damage this year compared to the 10-year average.

Ten of which are being investigated for arson.

The Category 2 fire ban is still in effect in the fire Centre. You can’t burn anything larger than 3 metres wide, or any grass fires larger than one-fifth of a hectare.

Firefighters also found 2 drones flying over the blazes. Airplanes can’t fly, or fight fires unless the airspace is clear.
