Organisers say this weekend’s “Night of the Valkyries” fundraiser was a success.
It raised about $250 for the Northern Women’s Festival administration costs.
Hosted at GameQuest, Festival Media Coordinator Laura Lawrence says it was great for everyone the whole family.
“People came out and brought their whole families, the kids had a great time. The arcade was just buzzing. Everyone was really, really into the Mario Kart tournament,” she says, “That got pretty heated.”
She says the turnout proves there is communal support for the cause.
“We do recognize that this is a really important issue. This is about families, this is about women who are connected to their families so I think that was a really big part of it. We wanted to stress that.”
This is the festival’s first year and will be held July 29 – August 1st.
Lawrence hopes to hold another fundraiser soon, this time, a Guitar Hero tournament.
