Dust Advisory for Prince George extended until further notice

The Ministry of Environment and Northern Health have extended the dust advisory for Prince George.

While the amount of particulates in the air did decrease during the week, it’s still above advisable levels.

The advisory will remain in effect until further notice – likely until it rains or the streets are cleared of traction materials.

The City of Prince George has also updated the Clean Air Bylaw, which now prohibits all open burning. This includes backyard burning and land clearing fires.

The bylaw also bans recreational fires, street sweeping activities (unless approved by an authorized person) and wood-burning appliances. There is an exception for homes that rely on wood burning for heat.

Industry is also being asked to reduce emissions as much as possible while the dust advisory is in effect.
