City council considers expanding Prince George Playhouse liquor license

Changes could be coming to the Prince George Playhouse. City Council will consider a recommendation to expand the theatre’s liquor license to include the seating area. Currently, those attending adult-only shows at the venue can only drink boozy beverages in the lobby or lounge.

Judy Russell, whose company Enchainement Productions holds the management contract for the Playhouse, says the proposed change will be good for the people hosting events at the venue and those who attend them.

“It will make it more available for mature events to be able to offer the opportunity for people to enjoy a concert or comedy show and be able to take their drink into the theatre with them.”

When asked if she thinks Council will approve the expansion, Russell said:

“Yes, I believe so. We’re hoping to become far more big city and offer the people who go to the theatre and the people who present theatre more options for their events.”

Russell says an expanded liquor license for the theatre will benefit the community.

“We’re trying to make the facility a more rentable and usable functioning facility for the community.”

If Council approves the expansion of the license, it will still require final approval from the Liquor Control and Licensing Board.
