Winter games legacy project helping people with disabilities

The spirit of the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George is alive and well thanks to its first legacy project.

Back in 2015, the B.C. Government, Via Sport and the Canadian Paralympic Committee put up $335,000 for the Northern Sport Accessibility Project.

Pacific Sport of Northern BC Executive Director, Leslie Wirth says the organization has been busy since the fund was created last year.

“This allowed us to provide a very focused effort. So we had a number of wheelchair sports try-out events over the past year, we also brought up the Canucks Autism Network to provide a day of training for parents, caregivers, and educators.”

They also brought the first ever Northern B.C. Para-athlete Performance and Development Camp to Prince George last weekend.

2015 Canada Winter Games won two awards in Ottawa on Monday as Top Sport Tourism Event and Sustainable Event of the Year.
