The Prince George Cougars went 1-and-3 on a 4-game U.S. Division road trip which ended with a 7-2 loss Saturday to the Tri-City Americans.

The Americans tallied in the last minute of the 2nd and erupted with four unanswered goals in the 3rd.

Tri-City is four points out of a playoff spot.

The (33-26-3-1) Cougars have dropped 9 of their last 11.

They have just nine regular season games left, four of them at home this week over a five day period starting with a double-header against the (23-34-5-2) Vancouver Giants Tuesday and Wednesday.

Prince George is just 3 points ahead of 4th place Kamloops in the B.C. Division.

The Blazers, who lost 4-3 Sunday to Seattle, also have nine games to go.

The Giants are 14 points out of a wild-card playoff spot with just eight games to go.

P.G. is 4-2 against Vancouver this season with the road team winning all six games.

The Prince George Spruce Kings concluded their BCHL season with a pair of convincing victories on home ice over the last place Surrey Eagles: 5-1 Saturday and 7-2 Sunday.

20-year-old defenceman Stephen Penner picked up three assists in his final BCHL game while Jarod Houde notched a hat trick before 1,243 fans.

On Saturday, Connor Logan tallied twice and Cavin Tisley added a goal and two assists before an enthusiastic crowd of 1,482.

The Spruce Kings finished the season with a record of 14-38-4-2.

Only Surrey (7-48-1-2) finished with less points in the 17-team league.

The Cariboo Cougars swept the Okanagan Rockets 3-1 Saturday and 6-4 Sunday in Kelowna to finish second in the BCMML with a 29-8-3 record.

The Cougars scored four unanswered goals in the final period of their final regular season game to erase a 4-2 deficit.

Cariboo won 18 of its 20 second half games.

The Major Midget Cougars host the 7th place South Island Royals in a best of three quarter-final series this weekend.

The (33-6-1) Valley West Hawks ended up first and they will play the Greater Vancouver Canadians in the opening round.

The Prince George boxing community has lost one of its all-time great supporters.

Boyd Bayne, who coached the Spruce Capital Boxing Club for nearly 20 years (1980-99), has has passed away. He was 72.

Bayne was inducted into the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame in 2007 as a coach/builder category, just three years after his son, Alan, was inducted as an athlete (boxer).

Earlier this year, in January, Baine was inducted into the B.C. Amateur Boxing Association Hall of Fame.

Funeral services will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church.

Led by tournament MVP and top defensive player Colburn Pearce, the Duchess Park Condors won the North Central zone triple A boys basketball championship at College Heights.

Duchess dumped PGSS 106-69 in the final to qualify for the Provincials in Langley which begins March 9th.

Both the Duchess Park Condors and the D.P. Todd Trojans are 0-and-3 at the BC Junior Boys basketball championship in Langley.

Duchess fell 60-37 to MEI, 63-55 to Brookswood and 66-54 to Belmont.

D.P. Todd lost 58-40 to Argyle, 66-43 to Carihi and 48-41 to Dover Bay.

Top ranked Duchess Park and #6 Nechako Valley compete at the Provincial senior girls double A basketball championship in Langley.

The 16 team tournament begins on Wednesday.

Prince George was part of the Cariboo North-East region that finished sixth out of eight in medals with 49, and 5th in gold with 16, at the 29th BC Winter Games in Penticton.

The Cariboo North-East total also included 14 silver and 19 bronze.

Keanan St. Rose of P.G racked up five individual medals in Speed Skating, three gold and two bronze.

Eric Orlowsky of Prince George captured individual gold and bronze in Speed Skating.

Both Matthias Schenk and Tami Goto of P.G. took gold in Judo.

Fraser River collected the most medals with 107 and the most gold with 42.

More than 1,200 athletes from around the province competed in 17 different sports.
