IMSS receives anti-racism grant from Province

The BC government gave the PG Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society a helping hand Friday.

Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris and Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond announced a $20,000 donation for the group’s new anti-racism project.

Bond says this is a great way to unify Canada’s most ethnically diverse province.

“We want to make sure we’re finding ways to reduce racism in this province,” she says, “the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society is a fantastic organisation that’s well respected across the province, so these funds will help them lead conversations, have dialogues, and look at ways to reduce racism.”

IMSS Executive Director Baljit Sethi says the group will educate residents on international cultures.

“We will be delivering workshops, we will be meeting people and developing an agenda about how we should work with them and then we will develop a document that people can have in their own offices about how to deal with certain issues,” she says.

IMSS is one of fourteen groups across the province to receive funding.

The final product is expected in six to eight months.
