An expected cold snap in Prince George has WorkSafe BC alerting employers and workers in the city.
Director of Field Operations, Dan Strand says several workplace injuries have taken place in BC over the past few years.
“From 2010 to 2014 45 workers in BC were injured and one fatally resulting from cold exposure and during the same time period in Northern BC we had six serious injuries.”
He says a few helpful tips could make all the difference.
“Keep an eye on the temperature and wind-chill forecasts from either Environment Canada or the Weather Channel and minimize skin exposure to cold temperatures by wearing warm head covering.”
According to Environment Canada, anything below -28 degrees Celsius comes with a high risk of injuries as exposed skin can freeze within 10 minutes.
People working on ski-hills and seasonal tour operators are most likely to be affected by cold stress.
