Fatal accident near Fort Saint James

Fort St James RCMP responded to a fatal MVI Monday morning.

At 7:51 am, police were called to a collision on Tachie Road, about 13 kilometres west of Highway 27.

Officers attended the scene and learned that a loaded logging truck travelling east on Tachie Road and a 2007 black Chevrolet Impala travelling west on Tachie Road collided in a corner and sent both vehicles off road.

The driver of the Impala, a 28 year old female from Nanaimo, BC died at the scene. A 41 year old female from Fort St. James was taken by ambulance to Stuart Lake Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and is expected to recover. The driver of the logging truck was uninjured.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and the logging truck lost its load.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor. Road conditions were extremely icy at the scene and appear to be a contributing factor.
