City Budget deliberations kicked off with a nod to several months worth of public input…
External Relations Director Rob van Adrichem says roughly 1500 people provided input through the Citizen budget, surveys, and Talktober.
“Respondents would like to see road rehabilitation, snow control, and garbage and recycling collection increased in terms of budget allocations… 89% actually listed no services to be decreased.”
“Our satisfaction seems to be much higher with the snow removal that was performed last winter as opposed to the year before it,” add Director of Finance Kris Dalio. “But it does cost more money to send the trucks out sooner, and to have retainers in place.”
rhe proposed 3 percent increase to the overall tax levy is consistent with prior years.
“The increase to the snow control levy for this year is also partially due to the service level changes that were implemented as a result of the Mercury Report.”
The new proposed snow removal budget sits at $7 million.
While Lyn Hall and the rest of Council approved budgets for community services (policing, fire, etc.), Service Agreements (Public Library, Tourism Prince George), Corporate Management, and the new External Relations department, public works issues will be tackled next week.
