High-Tech Highway Sign comes at a Price

A new high-tech highway sign is coming to Prince George.

Work is already underway on a new $400,000 electric message board near 15 mile road on Highway 97 South.

The sign will provide real-time information on road conditions as well as safe driving reminders.

“The road conditions change so frequently and we’ve found throught the province that these types of signs that have been displayed are of great importance to the trucking community, to the commercial users on the highway if there’s a road closure or there’s bad weather conditions” said Prince George – Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris.

When asked about the whether the money should have been spent on lighting and barriers for the highway, Morris stood behind the Province’s decision.

“There’s always those kinds of things that are taken into consideration but we have to remember that there’s thousands of people who use that highway on a daily basis and we think the money is well spent” said Morris.

The message board is part of a 5 million dollar investment from the BC Government towards Community Safety Enhancements in the Province.
