Kelly Road replacement tops SD57 funding wishlist

School District 57 has identified a multi-million dollar renovation wishlist to be sent to the Ministry of Education.

Topping the list is an appeal to replace Kelly Road Secondary.

“This is a very necessary replacement. It’s been on our capital plan since 2012, and it is a total funding of $41 million, and we are very hopeful that this project will be approved,” explained Trustee Sharel Warrington.

Coming in at second is a call for renovations to Nusdeh Yoh Elementary.

the school was previously tagged for replacement, but the district opted for the much-cheaper renos.

Sitting third on the list is improvements to DP Todd, a project Warrington says has been on the table for eight years.

“The addition to DP Todd Secondary would be to increase the capacity from 625 students to 750, and would include removing the modulars that are there on the grounds.”

The school has been operating with more than 700 students enrolled in 2013, but the renovation would cost more than 7.2 million dollars.

Warrington also cautioned that they aren’t guaranteed a single dollar for the projects.

“We have no guarantee that the Ministry will honour these submissions… If they do, that frees up other dollars we would need to support other new projects in our district.”

The combined cost of the three projects is more than 51 million dollars.
