WHL:

The Prince George Cougars are gearing up to play four road games in five days.

They will visit the Wenatchee Wild Wednesday and Friday, the Everett Silvertips Saturday and the Vancouver Giants Sunday (in Langley).

The (35-19-4-2) Cougars are second in the B.C. Division, five points behind the (36-15-3-6) Victoria Royals with both teams having 8 regular season games remaining.

The Cougars schedule includes four games against Wenatchee, two against Victoria and one each against Vancouver and Everett.

The Royals schedule includes two games each against Vancouver, Spokane and Prince George, and one each against Kamloops and Kelowna.

Victoria will host Spokane Friday and Saturday.

BCHL:

The Prince George Spruce Kings host the Langley Rivermen Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00.

The (18-24-3-1) Spruce Kings are three points behind the (17-20-8-1) Rivermen for the 8th and final playoff spot in the BCHL Interior Conference.

Both teams have eight games remaining.

NHL: (6 Monday games with 3 Canadian teams in action)

Caps sniper Alex Ovechkin did not pick up a point.

The 39-year-old Ovechkin is just 11 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL career record of 894.

The (39-14-8) Caps have 21 regular season games left.

The (27-22-11) Vancouver Canucks start a 4-game homestand Wednesday night at 7:30 against Anaheim.

Vancouver is tied with the (28-23-9) Calgary Flames for the 2nd and final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

There are 10 games tonight (Tuesday) in the NHL with 3 Canadian teams in action; Calgary at Philadelphia, Edmonton home against Anaheim and Winnipeg at New York Islanders.

BC Elite Hockey League: 

The first place Under-18 Cariboo Cougars will host the last place Thompson Blazers in the BC Elite Hockey League quarterfinals.

The (26-6-3-1) U-18 Cougars face the Blazers in a best-of-3 series at Kin 2 (as a speedskating event will be held the same weekend at Kin 1).

Games are scheduled for Friday night at 6:00, Saturday night at 5:45 and if needed Sunday morning (March 9th) at 11.

High School Basketball:

The B.C. High School Boys Basketball Provincial Championships begin Wednesday and continue until Saturday in Langley.

Last week the Langley Events Centre hosted the Girls Basketball Provincials.

Duchess Park finished 4th and College Heights 6th out of 16 in 3A.

Duchess lost the bronze medal game 68-57 to Vernon.

Nechako Valley ended up 15th and Hazelton 16th in 2A.

Cedars Christian placed 5th, Bulkley Valley Christian 8th and Fort St. James 13th in 1A.

Duchess Park finished 14th in Junior Girls.

 

NBA:

The (19-42) Toronto Raptors visit the (29-33) Orlando Magic tonight (Tuesday 4:00) to conclude a 4-game road trip.

The Raptors beat the Magic 104-102 Sunday in Orlando.

Curling:

Defending champion Brad Gushue is 4-0 at the Montana’s Brier which is featured this week in Kelowna.

The final is set for Sunday.

The winner will represent Canada at the world men’s curling championship in Moose Jaw from March 29th to April 6th.
