The Prince George Cougars scored four unanswered goals to claim a 4-2 victory over the Kamloops Blazers Saturday night.
“I think when you look at the big picture, arriving in here at 5:00 this morning, and getting the players to play a 6:00 o’clock game, both groups actually, give them credit, they put on a good game tonight,” said Associate Coach Jim Playfair on the post-game show on 94.3 the Goat.
“I didn’t like either one of the goals against. I thought that first period was excellent.”
Kamloops opened the scoring 8:31 into the first, with Conner Radke taking a feed from Andrew Thomson and firing past Cooper Michaluk.
Beau Courtney added on to the Blazers’ lead with one-time blast to open the second.
“I thought we were a little bit frustrated in the second, we couldn’t get ourselves connected, taking care of pucks in our own zone and we felt like we played on our heels for the majority of the period,” Playfair said.
Terik Parascak got the Cougars on the board during a delayed penalty, taking a Viliam Kmec pass in the slot and burying the backhand.

Newly-signed Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Borya Valis tied the game late in the middle frame, finishing off a 2-on-0 with Jett Lajoie.

We got that one late and it kind of gave us a little bit of juice and we come out in the third period, which is, really when you look at it in the big picture, our third periods have been excellent,” Playfair said.
“We did a good job, we got the powerplay organized and it got a big goal for us.”
While on the powerplay, Koehn Ziemmer found the back of the net on a rebound to give the Cougars their first lead of the night close to the halfway point of the third period.

Riley Heidt capped off the night by putting the puck into the empty net in the dying seconds.

The Cougars did not receive any standings help from the Portland Winterhawks, they fell 4-3 to the Victoria Royals last night.
The Cougars (35-19-4-2) are five points back of the Royals (36-15-3-6) in the BC Division.
