Doherty takes Cariboo – Prince George

Todd Doherty took advantage of a split vote between the Liberals and NDP in the Cariboo – Prince George to keep the riding Conservative against a wave of Liberal support that swept Canada.

After campaigning for for over a year Doherty said he was going to spend Monday night savouring his victory. Looking back on a campaign that stretched well over a year, he says he doesn’t have many regrets.

“We didn’t get much sleep because of the excitement from day one, and I don’t know if we would have done much differently because we put 110% into it. People ask me if I was excited or tired, but we are just getting started.”

When questioned about how he feels about the national picture and saying goodbye to Stephen Harper; “It really hasn’t sunk in yet, I obviously think the world of the man and respect him and would have loved to of worked with him.”

The Doherty campaign pulled out the victory, beating Liberal Candidate Tracy Calogheros by about 5%.

“Tracy is a great candidate and I said that all along. All of the candidates put their name forward and were all there for the right reasons.” Doherty said “Tracy is a superb candidate and I knew she would be one of our toughest competitors.”

When the question “what’s next” was posed, Doherty got a bit choked up;

“I think tomorrow, if I can, I’m going to walk my dog. I gonna hug my wife and my kids. And tomorrow is a good day.”
