Those who haven’t seen the award winning documentary ‘Sugarcane’, will have an opportunity later this month.
The documentary covers the investigation into St. Joseph’s Mission residential school, and the tragic history of the deaths, abuse, and missing children at the location.
Since its release, the documentary has won the Grand Jury Award for Directing, and is nominated for Best Documentary at the 97th Academy Awards.
Executive Director, Alyssa Leier said in a release “This is an emotional and impactful film that beautifully weaves together several individual stories that highlight the intergenerational trauma still felt by Indigenous people today.”
“Sugarcane is a must-see documentary that emphasizes the resilience of Indigenous communities and the perseverance shown in the face of colonialism and forced assimilation.”
The screening will be on February 28th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, before the Academy Awards in March 2nd.
More information, and where to preregister to see the film can be found on The Exploration Place’s website here.
