Prince George is in the midst of its longest cold stretch of the winter season and that means pipes and heaters are taking a beating.
Local plumbing and heating companies have been a lot busier the last several days during the cold snap.
Val Marsh with Mainline Plumbing and Heating explains some of the most common issues this time of year.
“We have a lot of people where their furances end up breaking down on them, main water lines under the ground are developing fractures or breaks and then you have pipes freezing. If their homes aren’t insulated properly or if they are living in mobile homes then yeah, we do get a huge influx this time of year.”
Marsh adds maintenance is key noting Fortis BC has rebates every year related to gas appliances.
“If they are not serviced properly, we get a lot of people where the filters aren’t changed or they have no filters and then the furnace gets plugged and dirty. Sometimes it can be your condensate outside of the condensation just freezes and there is no way of mitigating that in no way shape or form.”
The cold snap is expected to persist until the end of next week.
