Staffing expanded by 900 throughout Northern Health

Northern Health will have some new faces following a recent hiring.

900 new staff members were taken on, helping alleviate the staffing issues that continue to persist across the region.

Vice President of Clinical Operations, Lisa Zetes-Zanatta says Prince George will be seeing more nurses through this hiring.

“More than 450 of them were new nurses. Proportionally, a majority of them would be in the Prince George area, and the reason for that is because of the larger staffing compliment that we have here.”

Zetes-Zanatta says while they offer more service in the Prince George area, attracting more staffing, they are looking at placing people throughout the region to try and mitigate service interruptions.

This intake of staffing is prior to nurse-patient ratio implementation rolling out, but will be part of their ongoing recruitment.

As to where Northern Health sits with current staffing levels, Zetes-Zanatta says they’re at the start of their work, needing to continue to redouble their efforts.

She doesn’t anticipate they will stop the need for recruitment, and will continue to recruit, encouraging anyone to join Northern Health.
