WHL:

Prince George Cougars  8  Swift Current Broncos  3

Viliam Kmec notched a goal and four assists leading the way for the Cougars, who had 11 players that recorded at least a point before 2,918 fans at CN Centre.

Captain Riley Heidt added a goal and two assists for Prince George, who sit second in the BC Division, just a point behind the (25-13-3-5) Victoria Royals.

The (12-18-3-1) PG Spruce Kings begin a 3-game Island road trip tonight (Wednesday) when they visit the (15-18-2) Nanaimo Clippers.

The Spruce Kings are 9th out of 10 in the Coastal Conference, four points behind the 8th place Clippers.

BC Elite Hockey League:

The Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the Okanagan Rockets Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at Kin 1 and Sunday afternoon at 12:45 at CN Centre.

The (19-6-2-1) Cougars are tied with the (20-8-0-1) Valley West Giants for first place in the 8-team BC Elite Hockey League, a point ahead of the (19-9-1-1) Okanagan Rockets.

Speedskating:

It was a golden performance for speed skater Carolina Hiller.

The PG Blizzard alum and two-time world champion was part of the Canadian women’s 3-person team that captured gold at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating Championships in Calgary.

World Cup speed skating action continues this weekend in Milwaukee.

 

Canada West basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves are home this weekend in Canada West basketball.

The Timberwolves host the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday at noon and 6:00 and Saturday night at 5:00 and 7:00.

The UNBC women are 4-10 while the UNBC men sit 1-13.

The Fraser Valley women are 11-5 while the Fraser Valley men are 7-9.
